Actually, no. There is not a falcon to be seen, but by the time I saw the cover it was too late to change. IP: Logged |

It's a nice cover. Does the jewel (is it a ruby?) have any significance in the story or is that there purely for decorative reasons too? Also, is there a blurb for the back cover yet? - LFL [This message has been edited by LFL (edited 09-28-2003).] IP: Logged |

A very striking cover. Even if there is no mention of a falcon, it certainly draws the eye. I prefer covers that do not attempt to interpret how the characters look. There have been times when I couldn't get past the cover art to enjoy the book because I didn't care for the artist rendition of the characters. I enjoy using my imagination to picture what the author has described. I can't wait to see the book on my store shelf! Sandy - the other one IP: Logged |

Yes, I think it's very elegant. LOL, covers have gone from bare-chested hunks to the most demure art. (I'm not so sure a white falcon is exactly the logo I would have picked for Allegreto, myself, but oh well. )There's a ring in the book, yes, and it's relatively important. But it's an engraved gold ring, not a ruby. I was interested to find that engraving words on rings was common in the late medieval period. I promised no Middle English, but I didn't say anything about Middle French! IP: Logged |

i like the color. i am glad publishers have gotten away from the half naked man and woman, for many reasons. for one thing, often they were not how i imagined the hero/heroine to be or as described, so i would try to ignore the cover!! I know i have just torn them off occasionally in the past. in addition, when people see you reading a book with such a picture on its cover you just know that they are holding back a smirk...i mean, please.

I like it. Its a lovely shade of blue and I can't wait to own my very own copy. Will there be a picture on the inside flap like Dream Hunter and FMLH did? Thanks for posting the cover. Lara. [This message has been edited by Lara (edited 09-30-2003).] IP: Logged |

Often contrary here, and in this case so as I think your own computer generated cover is better than the graphic designers. It has depth, interest and story-perking qualities. But still, only bad covers are detrimental and this is not a bad cover, more a neutral one, imo. Gigi IP: Logged |

Hi, Laura! What with an overseas move (from Europe to the US), I haven't been here in forever, but I was absolutely delighted to see the cover of SHADOWHEART when I did finally get time to visit. It's a _great_ cover, and I can't wait to read the book. I hope you are doing well and writing up a storm! Beth IP: Logged |

Gigi, You, contrary? He,he. You'll have to lump me in with you, too. Laura, I like yours better. The artist's cover art is elegant, and inoffensive, but...not exactly intriguing or indicative of the rich detail and texture of your writing. I wish they'd have taken a chance on your cover and broken the mold, so to speak. It reminds me either of a Judith Ivory cover, or hmmm. Can't remember who. It's been awhile and I can't go dig through the boxes in the garage to find out who it reminds me of. Oh well. But those who are afraid to buy something with a Muscle Man on the front should be quite happy when they take it up to the register to pay for it. Maybe you'll get more readers...(Cha-ching!) And here I was hoping, when I first laid eyes on the cover, that I was getting to make a guest appearance in “Shadowheart” - or maybe my offspring. IP: Logged |

I have to agree with gigi and Sheila. I liked your picture of the mountains and the sillouette of the castle much better than the publishers. IP: Logged |

One of the things I always hate in cover art is a picture of a heroine/hero with blond hair when the book specifically states that she/he has raven hair or vice/versa. Don't the publishers bother to read the book? And usually my image of the protagonists doesn't gibe with the cover art, so something abstract is much better. Having said that, I still think barechested Jervaux on the old FFTS cover is a hottie, and have to admit that the Fabio cover of TPOM caught my eye immediately, although I didn't really need a reason at that point to read an LK novel. Still, I think that LK has gotten well past needing a bodice ripper cover to inspire sales. IP: Logged |
